  Lets talk about 1975

  ok here's what i need, theres a group on facebook that has a kid that claims the events of 1975 are nothing but rubish, basically he says that it was the publishers who just started rumors, this is where you guys come in.. i want to show him that the society is responsible for 1975 that they did in fact lead millions to believe the end was coming that fall, that people actually did make dramatic changes in their lives ( getting dunked, selling houses, not having children, moving where the need is greater) you get the drift.

  i need the following:.

  watchtower, awake and any other publications where they even hinted at the 1975 dateand i think the most important would be to get some of you to tell me everything you know about 1975.and experinces, who of you made some drastic changes in anticipation of 1975?lola.

  I left in 75 and harbored a few lingering doubts that something might happen by the end of the year. I don't have access to any literature but I remember it was freely talked about--that 75 was the big one. All the people in the congregation talked about it and were never corrected by anyone--even CO. They can back pedal all they want, but those of us who were around in the early 70's know the truth about what happened. Of course, the fact that we left means that we're all apostates. Some of the people still in know the truth in their heart of hearts but are probably too intimidated to say anything.

  Do you have any assembly memories/stories?

  on an earlier thread about ice cream i remembered a snack that was sold at assemblies and that started me thinking about some of my memories of childhood at conventions/assemblies.

  i guess it was the taste/smell association because even today when i go to various convention halls for home improvement expos, car shows and the like it takes me right back to the past.

  i have many memories wrapped around the conventions and experienced different things because i have lots of elders in the family that were used, literally, for food service, the accounting office, security and dramas.

  I stopped going to the same congregation you were in way back in the 70's. We used to have our assemblies at the Masonic Temple in Binghamton. We had a chorus and used to practice in some of the inner sanctum rooms upstairs. It's been a long time but I remember some of the decorations were weird and looked satanic. Oh, no!

  We had a small assembly at the Community Center by the lake in Watkins Glen. Had to set up and take down so many chairs. I was assigned to wash pots in a little area by the bathrooms. I don't know who assigned that, but there's nothing like getting your assembly finery and shoes all gunked up and soaking wet from wrestling those huge pots.

  I always loved working in food service because you got to miss sessions....I don't know what I'd do with myself now that they don't serve food.

  today i was at a laundry mat and saw several jw mags and tracts.

  i threw them all away in the trash can!.

  i also tell everyone i have an opportunity about being in a cult, the jw's and have had many interesting conversations.

  Yep, I sure do. I don't discuss doctrine since I'm an atheist and so don't care about it. But I do talk about how families are affected. They seem to be pretty surprised that people are shunned by their relatives. I don't bring the subject up but I can't resist when the subject of religion comes up.

  Wow! Glad you're okay. I'd be looking for that first lawyer (maybe through the second lawyer) and see what happened. If there was no good reason for his dereliction of duty, I would sue. Maybe he could be disbarred.

  I'd say "All's well that ends well," but I don't think is over yet.

  My hubby just laid down some rules to my elder dad

  recently an elder called mike's mob phone wanting to speak to me, the only person who could have passed on that info was my elder dad.

  mike has been waiting for my dad to call him to arrange to see the kids, as he wont deal with me at all.

  so mike said to him i dont appreciate you giving our number out to the elders, we want nothing to do with them or your religion etc... mike than called me and said there was so much more i wanted to tell him.. i get a phone call about 30 mins later, mike had rang my dad and said if you want to see your grandkids then there are a few rules you will need to follow, 1. dont ever give out our personal details (which my dad apologised for and acknowldeged that he shouldnt have done that ) and 2. if you want to see your grandkids you need to speak to your daughter, you can msg her phone or even speak to her.

  I agree with what everyone has said. If your father can't show you respect, why should he have access to your children? That would almost be like admitting that you did something wrong. Your husband really has his act together. What a hero!

  Do you like where you live?

  i live in the southern united states.

  i'm not too fond of the state i'm in but i'm within close driving distance of some very cool places.

  the people in the south are awesome, very hospitable.

  I'm in the Finger Lakes area of NYS. It's beautiful here. We don't seem to get that lake effect snow they get from the Great Lakes (my brother is in Owego and they measure the snow in feet, not inches). Summers a little muggy once in a while, but all in all its a good place to live.

  I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens until I was 12 when we move upstate. Went to the Woodhaven and Ozone Park congregations but it was so long ago I don't remember many names.

  jw's bought a restaurant here

  a jw's couple bought a restaurant , relatively nice one too, here in town.

  so i am doing my part in spreading the good news about how my son, a member of their church, had his assembly here in my town 3 weekends ago and was not allowed to talk to me due to my no longer beign a jw (and my shop is 2 blocks from the arena they had their assembly in).

  i have not spoken with him in 8 years.

  A woman I work with has a part-time job waitressing on a dinner cruise. She got left a tract by some witnesses. Maybe everyone who goes to this restaurant could leave different types of religious tracts--even JW ones. Payback, ahh!

  Fantastic opportunities for advanced education on line

  lsu, california state,, eastern and western illinois among others offer fantastic classes.

  harvard even offers a doctorate degree on line, although you will have to attend for a short time on campus.

  several members of my family are finishing up degrees or advancing them through clep tests or on line classes through these sites, with testing done at local colleges or homework sent through the mail at minimal cost compared even to your local jr. college.

  Just make sure that the school is fully accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies. I work in a government job where I have to verify degrees and we cannot accept non-accredited degrees.

  My sister and I were on a road trip with our sons (we each have one boy and they were about 10 at the time). They were bickering like brothers with the "He touched me" and "He's on my side" stuff. We tried all the "don't make me stop the car" sayings but nothing worked. I said the craziest think I could think of - "If you two don't stop, I'm going to reach back there and twist your lips off." Well they thought that was funny and it took their minds off each other for a few minutes. They still remember it and laugh about it when they are reminiscing.

  Crazy neighbors.......you got any?

  ok, i about had a heart attack this morning.. i have two cats, and they get out once in a while when someone doesnt shut the door.

  so my fluffy got out about 10 pm last night.

  i left the patio door open a crack for him to get in........but he didnt come back.. first place i went at 8:00am this morning?

  The guy who lives in the apartment above mine has a son who visits some nights and most weekends. The kid's obviously got issues and he tries to get his dad's attention by making lots of noise because he knows his dad will react. Last Friday night he started his routine--knocking chairs over and throwing things on the floor, etc., and his dad told him to stop because it would bother me. The kid said, "You don't care about me, I don't care about her." The boy will drop something over and over and over and if his dad says something, he says in that real whiny voice, "Whaaaatt? I wasn't doing anything." He's 11 or 12, not a baby.

  A couple of weeks ago, he was on a real rampage and his dad said, "Do you want to go back to the psych center?" It was a cruel thing to say, but it explains a lot like the time we didn't see anything of him for a month. I feel sorry for both of them and sorry for me when this is going on.

  Other than that, it really is a great apartment--off-street parking, washer/dryer, and lots of storage.
